Sorry it's been so long, y'all. If it's any consolation, I think this one is pretty good. I edited it and everything and it's got some action in it.

"Pepperoni!" ~Puddleduck

Chapter Twenty-Four
In The Kitchen

The camera follows the girls into a Chuck-E-Cheese rip-off restaurant. It's full of little kids playing loud video games with annoying music coming from the P.A. system. Puddleduck looks at the games with wide-eyed excitement.

"Mega Mountain 3!" she says excitedly, and she runs off to play.

The two pizzas we ordered were inhaled not five inutes after they were set on our table.

"We're gonna need a bigger order," Amberwood said, starting on her third slice.

"We're going to need more money first," Sam said.

"Seriously," I said.

Yeliah sat down next to me and took a slice. I stared in surprise.

"What?" she asked.

"Where have you been?" I asked.

"Over there," she said, pointing vaguely to her right.

"Feels like you've been gone for like a year," I said.

"Focus," Spunky said.

"I have an idea," Starsong said.

"No," we all replied.

"You didn't even hear it."

"Airplane Dude at six o'clock," LLP said. The two sides of the table looked in two different directions.

"My six o'clock." We turned and saw Airplane Dude hurrying across the dining room. He disappeared through a swinging door to the kitchen. I exchanged a curious look with Sam and a second later, a loud crash came from the kitchen.

Yeliah looked at Starsong.

"Should we?" she asked.

"No," Starsong said. "But we're going to anyway."

They got up. Amberwood and I followed and we started towards the kitchen.

"Order another pizza while you're in there!" Spunky called after us.

"Pepperoni!" Puddleduck added.

The first thing I noticed when we walked through the kitchen door was how quiet it was. Quiet and empty. There was no one around. Something was wrong.

"Guys," Amberwood said in a whisper. "This isn't good."

"I know," Starsong said seriously.

There was a small sound (I'm not sure what, exactly, it was) from the back. Yeliah headed in that direction.

"Yeliah," I said.

"I heard something," she said.

"So did I. That's why we should be going the other way."

She kept walking. The three of us shared an exasperated look and reluctantly followed. We turned right, into a small hallway. Across from a walk-in freezer was a large pantry, with the door open. We went inside and looked around. There was nothing there.

"Let's go," Amberwood said. "It was probably nothing."

We turned back to the door and stopped when we saw the man standing there- the large, frightening man with a goatee.

"Hello," he said in a gruff German accent.

Starsong gave a nervous little laugh.

"This isn't the bathroom!" she said with fake surprise.

"No," he said.

"We'll just be going, then."

"No. I believe you have something that belongs to me."

"We don't have anything," I said.

Yeliah stepped up to the door. He laid a hand on her arm to stop her.

"Please don't touch me," she said seriously.

"Your friend from the airplane-"

"He's not our friend," Starsong said.

"He gave you something."

"No," I said. "You have the wrong people."

He still had a hand on Yeliah's arm and she didn't like it. She expressed this by grabbing his hand and twisting it hard. It didn't seem to bother him and the lack of a response didn't seem to bother Yeliah.

"I told you not to touch me" she said calmly. "We're leaving now."

He reached for her with his free hand and she kneed him in the groin. That got a reaction. He bent over in pain and Yeliah pushed him onto the floor. The four of us hurried to the door. I was the last one out and, for some reason, I stopped to look back at the man. He pulled a gun out of his pocket. I hurried away.

"Go," I said urgently. "Hurry."

We were halfway to the kitchen when the door opened and a second man stepped in.

"Daniel?" Yeliah stared in shock at the hitch-hiker we'd picked up just a few days before. I looked down and saw that he, too, had a gun in his hand that he quickly tried to hide when he saw us.

"Hi," he said. "What are you guys doing here?"

"We could ask you the same thing," I said.

The tiny sound of a silenced gunshot came from behind us and a bullet hit the wall right next to Daniel. I turned and saw the man with the goatee standing at the end of the hallway, holding his gun out. Amberwood pulled me onto the floor behind the counter and Starsong and Yeliah sat against the wall between two stoves across from us.

"This is not what I signed up for," Starsong said quietly.

Daniel ducked down at the end of the counter to avoid the Goatee's bullets. I peeked around the other end. The Goatee was heading towards Daniel. I grabbed a pan off the counter. I came around the other side and snuck up behind the Goatee. He turned around and I swung the pan like a baseball bat at his hand. The gun fell out of his grip onto the counter.

He reached for the gun, but Amberwood appeared and pulled it off the counter. I heard it fall to the floor. The Goatee reached for Amberwood, but she pulled as far away as she could.

Daniel stood up and tackled the Goatee to the ground. I jumped out of the way, onto the counter and Starsong helped me over to the other side. I grabbed her hand and headed for the door.

"We can't leave him," she said.

"He'll be fine," I said. "We'll send back the police."

The four of us hurried through the dining room and returned to the table, where everyone was waiting for us. I grabbed my bag.

"We gotta go," I said.

"Now?" LLP asked.

"Now," Starsong said.

"Let's go," Amberwood said. "Come on."

We gathered up our things, left some money on the table and hurried out of there. We ran across the parking lot to the van and piled in as Yeliah recalled what had just happened.

"So Daniel's a spy, or something?" Sam asked.

"Or something," I said.

Twenty minutes later we returned to the restaurant with two police officers. They spoke to the manager for a moment, then he led us all to the kitchen- the two officers and the eight of us.

When we stepped into the kitchen, I stopped so suddenly that Spunky bumped into me from behind. The entire kitchen staff was in place and working. There was no sign that anything that happened.

The officers sighed and looked at us. They hadn't believed us to begin with. I knew what they were thinking now.

"They were here," Amberwood said. "Just like we told you."

"Right," one of the officers said. "The Goatee Man and the hitch-hiker."

"And the man from the airplane," I said.

"The one who disappeared."

Instead of answering, I looked down at the floor.

"Yes," Starsong said.

"And there was a gunfight?" the other officer asked.

"What, are you hard of hearing?" Yeliah asked.

"Okay. Well, if the man with the goatee, or the hitch-hiker or the disappearing airplane man bother you again, you call us. In the meantime, we have actual crimes to investigate."

The two of them walked to the door, stopping when they got to Yeliah, who stood there with her arms crossed, staring them down. Spunky carefully took hold of her arm and moved her out of the way.

"This is crap," Starsong said. She stormed out.

I turned to the wall. The spot where the Goatee's bullet had hit it now hung a full bulletin board. I reached out to move it, but was almost immediately blocked by the manager stepping in front of me.

"I'm sorry, Miss," he said. "I need you to leave. The kitchen is for employees only."

"Come on, Lady," Sam said. She gently took my arm and led me out.

It was getting dark when we got back to the van.

"I know what I saw," Amberwood said firmly.

"We all know what you saw," Spunky said. "There's not much we can do about it."

"Spunky's right," LLP said.

I sighed.

"Look, guys," I said. "The Goatee had the wrong people, obviously. Whatever this is, it has nothing to do with us and there's nothing we can do about it. There's no reason we can't just go on with our vacation."

"Exactly," LLP said.

"Well, we still need some more money," Sam said as we climbed into the van.

"Okay, hear me out," Starsong said. "My plan is simple. All we need is a bucket of golf balls, five badgers, seven lifevests and a goat."

I agree with Yeliah: Best. Line. EVAR!!!

Also, am not sure what side Daniel is meant to be on, but him suddenly coming to the rescue and telling you guys to duck and all? Very sexy. *nods in approval*
